WHO Regional Meeting on Mental Health Concludes in Dhaka
Health
experts and officials at a WHO Regional Meeting called for strengthening
the primary healthcare delivery system in order to identify and treat
patients with mental illness, through trained health workers of the
community clinics. The three-day meeting on ‘impact evaluation of the
ongoing projects to strengthen primary health care delivery system for
mental health-care’ was organized by the World Health Organization -
Regional office for South East Asia - in Dhaka
during 1-3 December 2011. The Minister
of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Bangladesh, Professor Dr A.F.M.
Ruhal Haque, inaugurated the meeting. It was attended by 60 health
experts from 11 countries of the South East Asia
and the ASEAN region. The Minister declared that community-based mental
health facilities would soon be strengthened through enhancing the existing
training of primary healthcare physicians and field workers.

Health and Human Rights Training Workshop
ends in Dhaka
A
two-day-long training workshop on “health and human rights” took place at a
Hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh, during December 12
– 13, 2011. It was participated by 23 professionals and support-service
staff members of the WHO country office for Bangladesh. It brought together
staff members from all technical units and programme-support officials of
the WHO office. There were three resource persons on the training workshop
– two from the WHO HQ and one from SEARO. More…..

Introducing Healthy Settings Approach in new
towns
Three
more cities in Bangladesh
have joined the Healthy Settings Movement to enhance its environmental
health conditions. There are 14 towns/ cities currently practicing WHO’s
Healthy Settings Approach in Bangladesh. During
September-November 2011 Healthy Settings launching workshops were held at
the Barisal City Corporation, at Chapai Nawabgonj and at the Fulbaria
Pourashova. Mayors, Counselors, Representatives of all relevant Government
Agencies, NGOs, related professionals and media personnel attended the
